Waterjet Cutting G10 / FR-4 Custom Shapes
As San Diego’s largest waterjet machine shop we’ve cut a LOT of G10! We have G10 and FR4 parts that we have cut on many spacecraft, rockets, and fighter jets.
We’ve spent a lot of time dialing in our settings and improving our equipment to go from 30 out of 50 failures with delamination cutting non-drilled 1/8″ thick G10 (cuts like CF) with 1/8″ holes to 0 out of 100. This saves a lot of money compared to predrilling pierces.
We have purchased the OMAX drill retrofit to allow us to predrill when a delamination is unacceptable. It’s typically cheaper to use our no drill option but when the parts are large or expensive we will use the drill. On smaller parts that are easily recut, it is not worth the additional drilling expense. Our failure rate without drilling is around 1 in 1000 delamination.
What is G10?
Garolite, also known as G10, or FR4, fire resistant G10, is a glass epoxy composite, similar to fiberglass. It has great strength to weight ratio and is non-conductive.
G10 vs Carbon Fiber
G10 is a cheaper than carbon fiber, but shares similar characteristics. Carbon fiber has a better strength to weight ratio, but can be more brittle and may block some RF signals. Choose CF when weight and strength is your primary concern, and choose G10 where cost or RF compatibility is your primary concern.
Capacity
We can cut up to 5×10 feet of any thickness of G10
We can produce 100’s or even 1000s of parts per week to support your high volume manufacturing.
